#9: Minions: The Rise of Gru

The family-friendly film, Minions: The Rise of Gru, grossed $1,743,290 million on Friday, September 9. After getting multiple Despicable Me sequels and a Minions movie, we finally get the origin story of how Gru and his minions became the unstoppable group they are now. The film stars Steve Carell, Julie Andrews, Taraji P. Henson, and Russell Brand, among others.

#8: Beast

This natural horror gets the #8 spot this week, grossing almost $1,800,660 on September 9. Idris Elba stars as Dr. Nate Samuels, a recently widowed father who takes his daughters to Africa. What is meant to be a time of healing turns into a fight for their lives as a lion begins stalking their every move.
#7: Lifemark

Released last weekend, Lifemark grossed a little over $2 million on September 9. In this Christian-inspired film, 18-year-old David meets his birth mother for the first time. While he’s been happy living with his adopted family, he soon questions his identity and his future.
#6: DC League of Super-Pets

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart star in this comedy that follows a group of rag-tag animals tasked with saving the Justice League. The film is at the top of the box office list, grossing $2,656,051 million on September 9.
Hollywood.com’s Natalie Daniels says the film “banks off its use of sarcasm that may go over children’s heads, but adults will definitely do a double-take and laugh.”
#5: The Invitation

Horror is the real deal as this scary movie hits #5 at the box office on September 9, grossing $2,666,978 million. The Invitation follows a young woman named Evie (Nathalie Emmanuel) who has lost her mother, the only family member she knows. When she researches more into her heritage and finds a long-lost cousin, he invites her to a wedding at the English countryside. Meeting the dashing and seductive host Walter (Thomas Doherty), she gets sucked into something more dark and sinister than she realizes.
#4 Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick is still standing tall in the top 4 spot this week. The film grossed $3,157,227 million on Friday, September 9. Over 30 years after the original Top Gun, Tom Cruise dusted off his fighter pilot training to reprise his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. He is put to the task of teaching a brand new group of graduates, with one being the son of his late friend Goose — Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (played by Miles Teller).
This sequel is Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing movie of all time, even surpassing the original film. Will this be one of your many movies to watch this weekend?
#3: Bullet Train

Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train jumps back to #2 at the box office. When retired assassin Ladybug (Brad Pitt) is called again for a new mission on a bullet train, he discovers several other assassins who are all connected in some way. The film grossed over $3,310,245 on Friday September 9.
Hollywood.com calls the film a “bloody comedy thrill ride.”
#2: Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva

In this Indian film, we follow protagonist Shiva as he sets out to find himself, while also finding love along the way. However, during his journey, he must face evil forces that threaten him and the people he loves. This action-fantasy driven movie grossed $4,543,659 on September 9.
#1: Barbarian

This body and supernatural horror hits the #1 spot this week grossing over $10 million on September 9. When a young woman comes to stay at a Airbnb, she realizes the home has been double booked. While she decides to stay with the stranger, she notices darker and dangerous threats lurking in the basement shadows.
