10 Best Moments from the Fast and Furious Films

As the excitement builds for Fast X, let’s take a drive down memory lane to revisit some of the best and most memorable moments from the Fast saga.

10. The Fast and the Furious (2001) Opening Truck Heist

The scene that started it all. While the stakes of the first film feel so much smaller in comparison with the globe-trotting espionage at play in the newer movies, this high-speed heist set the tone for the franchise and laid the groundwork for ridiculous car stunts to come.

9. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) Bridge Jump

The bridge jump scene in 2 Fast 2 Furious is one of the franchise’s early iconic moments. We see Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker), who is no longer an undercover officer, enter a street race in Miami in the film’s opening scene. It’s also the first time viewers get the chance to meet Ludacris’ Tej, who organized the race along with the bridge stunt that sends O’Conner flying to a victory.

8. Fast and Furious (2009) Audition Race

2009’s Fast and Furious rebooted the franchise after 2006’s Tokyo Drift, reuniting Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. At this point in the film, Brian O’Conner and Dom Toretto find themselves on opposite sides of the law once again. The audition race scene provides a pulse-pounding nod to the origins of the first film while adding new layers of action to the franchise.

7. Fast Five (2011) Train Heist

Fast Five helped reinvigorate the franchise as a large-scale action series, and no other scene helps solidify that idea than the train heist early in the movie. On one hand it’s somewhat of a callback to the original truck heists in the first film, just turned all the way up to eleven, culminating in a slow motion free-fall over water.

6. Furious 7 (2015) Building Jump

Dominic Toretto takes a leap of faith in this scene from 2015’s Furious 7 in which he and Brian O’Conner jump between not one, but two, buildings in Abu Dhabi while escaping Jason Statham. “Cars don’t fly!”

5. Fast and Furious 6 (2013) Dom Saves Letty

At it’s heart, the Fast saga is truly about family. And the emotional scene in Fast & Furious 6 when it is revealed that Letty Ortiz is still alive, after she was thought to have been killed in a previous movie, epitomizes this idea. The love and commitment to family hits maximum levels when Dom flings himself over a suspended bridge to save Letty, even while she has no memory of their connection to that point.

4. Fast and Furious 6 Airplane Heist

The airplane heist in Fast & Furious 6, Dominic and his crew attempt to hijack a military plane in mid-air. The scene is one of the most impressive stunts in the entire franchise, and it’s an absolute thrill to watch. The combination of vehicular action mixed with the hand-to-hand combat onboard makes for a truly memorable set piece.

3. Furious 7 Paul Walker Tribute

The final scene of Furious 7 paid tribute to the late Paul Walker, with a showcase of character highlights across nearly twenty years of Fast films. The scene is a touching reminder that beneath the revving engines and explosive chase sequences, there truly is a big heart at the center that fans connect with.

2. Fast Five Bank Vault Heist

The fifth film in the franchise features an incredible heist scene where Dominic and his crew steal a bank vault and drag it through the streets of Rio de Janeiro. The unique physics elements of two cars attached to a counter-weight bank vault helped bring the franchise to new heights while inspiring the next decade of the Fast formula to come: thrilling, creative action with fast cars at its center.

1. The Fast and the Furious Final Race

The Fast franchise has soared to some crazy heights in recent additions (remember when Tej and Rome orbited a car in space?!), that it’s easy to forget the origins are set in California street racing. The original climax captures the push and pull of Diesel and Walker’s character conflicts while reflecting the “quarter mile at a time” lifestyle in a classic, old-school drag race.
