2022 was an amazing year for Broadway shows with several revivals of classic musicals. Beyond revivals, there have also been plenty of memorable performances. Plus, this year had no shortage of celebrities who transitioned from on camera to the live stage, performing. Daniel Craig, most known for playing James Bond, played the titular character of Macbeth. Macbeth is about a man who is told by three witches that he will be the King of Scotland. Fueled by his own hubris and the prompting of his wife, it quickly becomes a murder plot to gain power, control, and wealth.
Angelica Ross – Chicago
Angelica Ross is an actress and transgender rights activist. She is most known for her roles in Pose and American Horror Story. However, now she’s hit the Broadway stage as Roxie Hart in Chicago. When a nightclub sensation, Velma, murders her cheating husband, the most talented, but sleazy, lawyer, Billy Flynn, is on the case. That is until Roxie, played by Ross, also ends up in jail with Flynn on her case. Roxie and Velma refuse to be outdone by one another in the goal for fame and notoriety.
Billy Crystal – Mr. Saturday Night
Billy Crystal known for When Harry Met Sally…, The Princess Bride, and the voice of Mike Wazowski in Monsters Inc., among other roles, brought Mr. Saturday Night to Broadway. Mr. Saturday Night was originally a 1992 movie co-written, directed by, and starring Billy Crystal. The story follows Buddy Young Jr., a stand-up comedian who has another shot at fame and connecting with his family.
Lea Michele – Funny Girl
Lea Michele was a child actress on Broadway, starring in musicals such as Spring Awakening, Les Misérables, and Fiddler on the Roof, but is probably most known for her role as Rachel Berry on Glee. Coincidentally enough, Rachel Berry isn’t the only Barbra Streisand fan. Lea Michele plays Fanny Bryce in Funny Girl which follows Fanny as she reflects on her life and relationship with her husband, who is supposed to return from prison.

Hugh Jackman – The Music Man
Hugh Jackman is probably most known for playing Wolverine across several movies. He has also been in a couple movie musicals including Les Misérables and The Greatest Showman. He is currently playing Harold Hill in The Music Man. Jackman stars as the main character, a con man trying to gain wealth by tricking Midwesterners into paying for band instruments and lessons.
Sutton Foster – The Music Man
Sutton Foster is probably most known for her Broadway work including Thoroughly Modern Millie and Anything Goes, but she also was in television shows Bunheads and Younger. She plays Marian in The Music Man, a prim piano teacher who is the only one who can call him on his con. But everything changes after he helps her brother overcome his lisp and anxiety.

Jesse Williams – Take Me Out
Jesse Williams is known for his work on Grey’s Anatomy, but he was also in Cabin in the Woods and provided the voice and motion capture for the main character in the video game Detroit: Become Human. Take Me Out explores a mixed-race gay baseball player’s coming out story while he is in the major leagues. Williams plays Darren Lemming, the main character.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson – Take Me Out
Jesse Tyler Ferguson is known for his role in Modern Family, but also has a significant Broadway background including The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, A Winter’s Tale, The Producers, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Spamalot, and The Merchant of Venice. Ferguson plays Mason Marzac in Take Me Out. His character is Lemming’s accountant, who also identifies as gay, and now is learning more about baseball.

Jim Parsons – A Man of No Importance
Jim Parsons is known for his role as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, and his new movie Spoiler Alert. In A Man of No Importance, he plays Alfie Byrne, the director of an amateur theatre troupe who wants to put on a stage show against the wishes of church authorities.
Daniel Radcliffe – Merrily We Roll Along
Daniel Radcliffe is most known for his role as Harry Potter in the movie series of the same name. Recently, the Harry Potter star embodied the real life comic singer Weird Al in the biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. He plays Charley Kringas in Merrily We Roll Along. The musical is nonlinear and jumps around in time, but follows the lives of a wealthy and jaded composer as well as his two estranged friends through the milestones of their personal and professional lives.
